Xinjiang is the "cotton warehouse of China". China's total cotton output in 2021-2022 is about 5.774 million tons, of which Xinjiang's cotton output is 5.272 million tons.

The mechanization and automation of cotton planting in Xinjiang have made a great breakthrough in the last decade. According to the data of 2020 released by Xinjiang agricultural department, the mechanical picking rate of cotton in Xinjiang has reached 69.83%.
