QCIT-Guardrails Base Metal: The beam, transition, end, and buffer sections shall consist of sheet made of open hearth, electric furnace or basic oxygen steel and shall meet the mechanical properties specified in table as below. Mechanical properties: The mechanical properties of the base metal shall conform to the following requirements: Beams and transition sections: Yield Point, minimum, 345 MPa (50000 psi); Tensile Strength, minimum 483 MPa (70000 psi); and Elongation, in 50 mm (2 in.), minimum, 12 percent. End and buffer sections: Yield Point, minimum, 227 MPa (33000 psi); and Tensile Strength, minimum 310 MPa (45000 psi).

Orders for guardrail under this specification shall include the following information, as required, to adequately described material:

· Quantity (linear meter or number of pieces).

· Class of guardrail.

· Types of guardrail.

· Effective length of beam section 3.8 mm or 7.6 mm.

· Shape (W-beam or Thrie-beam).

· Exceptions to this specification or special requirements, if any.

The provisions for setting up road guardrails are as follows: overpasses or underpasses shall be set up at the points where pedestrians, bicycles or other vehicles cross the expressway and Class I highway, especially at stations or intersections. The safety management signs for pedestrians shall be set up at the places where there are no pedestrian and bicycle overpasses or underpasses for Class I highways. On other classes of highways, necessary overpasses or underpasses can be set up according to the actual situation.


On expressways and Class I highways, in order to prevent vehicles from colliding with and injuring pedestrians, traffic barriers to prevent vehicles from entering the opposite lane and protective nets to prevent pedestrians from crossing the lane shall be set according to regulations. High embankments, bridgehead approaches, extreme minimum radius, steep slopes and other sections of highways at all levels shall be set with guardrails or warning posts.


In order to guide the driver's vision and ensure driving safety, signs can be used to indicate the edge and alignment of the road on the required road sections. At sharp turns and intersections with poor sight distance, signs, reflectors or lane separation can be set up in coordination with other measures to ensure driving safety.
